Dirty Women

Today I am concentrating on our Mother, Earth.
In Old Norse, she is Erda (also known as Jörd, Fjörgyn, Hlódyn). 
The ancient greeks knew her as Rhea or Gaea (Gaia).

I am a dirt-loving Earthgirl through and through – anxious for warmth so I can dig it.

Erda is the norse goddess of the Earth.
She is often associated with the Three Norns, the spinners of fate who guard the Well of Urd aka Weird’s well (well of destiny) at the base of Yggdrasil, the great ash World Tree of Life.  The well is a holy place where the Aesir (Asgardian Gods) often gathered.
Growing from the well, Yggdrasil stands at the center of the cosmos and holds the Nine Worlds – humans, gods, and all other beings live in its branches and roots. The goddess Erda waters it from the well of her wisdom. We live on Midgard (fourth world), aka Middle Earth.  We are linked with Asgard (first world, home of the Aesir) by The Rainbow Bridge aka Bifrost.

Yggdrasil dwells within the heart of everything – micro and macroworlds. 

Erda is the Great Mother, the single living organism supporting all beings on our planet.  She breathes life, has heart, soul, grows and changes like humans – only at a much slower vibration.

The name Earth originates from the 8th century anglo-Saxon word: erda which means ground or soil.  Earth is the only planet whose name in English is not derived from greco-roman mythology.  Cool, yeah ?

Erda, a seer knowing origins and outcomes, often helped Wodon (Odin) who would seek her advice regarding the future.   She is the bender of fate to those she favors, she is a primordial teacher, a living being.  Erda’s ties to fate and divination* led many to use the Earth herself for omens and signs, portents of the future – animals, birds, clouds, the oceans and more.

Not surprisingly, my Gaea is at 29 Leo conjunct Venus/Jupes in 8; my Erda in Scorp exact quincunx Sag Mars at the backdoor – I have definitely experienced my share of weird earth energies. For starters here. Travelling around on the Earth has taught me so much – at each location my experience has been transformative in accordance with the earth energies present in the rock below me.

Asteroids Erda and Gaea obviously represent your connection with the Earth. 
They indicate in which ways you are practical, skilled, also slowed.
They show how and where you ground yourself.
In synastry, they show how and where others ground you.

Three Norns; or spinners of fate derives from to whisper, or whisperer.  Old Norse for a practitioner of magic is norn (lower case n).  They can be found spinning and weaving webs of fate and carving runes into the trunk of Yggdrasil – in these ways they preside over life, death, destiny, the fate of all beings, Divine and Mortal. 
The Norns were often depicted in three stages of womanhood. Verdani as a young maiden, Skuld as mother, and Urda as a crone.

This Norse study led me to contemplate what is the difference between fate & destiny ?
Fate is divinely preordained, fixed.
Destiny, we have the power to shape.

In contrast to the Greek concept of fate, in ancient Germanic beliefs, all beings who are subject to destiny have some degree of agency in shaping their own destiny and the destinies of others – this is the dew that falls back into the well from the branches of the tree, accordingly reshaping the past and its influence upon the present. All beings do this passively; those who practice magick do it actively.  There is no absolutely free will, just as there is no absolutely unalterable fate; instead, life is lived somewhere between these two extremes.  source

Norn time is as follows, which I also find fascinating…

Here, time is cyclical rather than linear.
The present returns to the past, where it retroactively changes the past.

Asteroid Destinn is just what it sounds like – Destiny.
Destinn attracts grand meetings on par with what it contacts in your natal.
eg. Destinn conjunct Mars: fated men, actions, aggression, power, competition
In synastry it indicates someone is your catalyst via that contact planet
eg. Mars conj Destinn synastry – someone changes your actions/plans/direction
Composite Destinn indicates coupled power to change the world at large

Yet another Home Run for astrology !  
Destinn is at 8 Cancer in exact trine to my natal Erda.

Currently Erda is at 24 Taurus opposite Saturn at 23 Scorpio.
Gaea is at 25 Aries applying to South Node (my natal NNode).
Brilliantly accentuates the incoming Cardinal Cross energies !
It is (far past) time we take care of our Mother Earth.

In light of the fact that Uranus is square Pluto; square Mercury, Mars Jupiter stellium in Cancer (which in turn oppose Pluto) I wanted to pull one card from my Egyptian Book of Doors deck.  To add insight and open new perspectives on Uranus in particular – focal point – in what is a time of great and powerful change UPS.  This read is to spur new doors opening, and the best outcome for all of us, whatever we are facing.

Nut is the card I drew.

Nut is NIGHT, the goddess of the sky :: the milky way ::  the creative polarity (Note: Uranus is polarities) of Nu NIGHT which is the number one, the first impulse of creation – energy in a state of rest.

Nut is energy contained in matter – the energy of Nu with directional force in order to become manifest.

Cat Women

 Gorgeous, still very skitterish around me.

Food lady is nice.

Seems cat dreams are in the air of late…I dreamed of a herd of cats at my mother’s house, I picked a blue one.  Then soon after a reader commented about her dream of a black street cat – so this cat post was born.  Yes, another cat post.  Venus IS in Leo after all.

Check out my previous post about Norse goddess Freia, asteroid 76.  Two sacred cats (gifts from Thor) pulled her Valkyrie chariot onto fields of battle where she collected men slain in war.  She is the goddess of love, a powerful protectress, a nature deity.

Bastet, or Ubasti, Egyptian cat goddess is asteroid 4257.  Ubasti is the warrior goddess who protected the lower Nile, the Pharaoh and Ra (Sun God).  She has been called upon since the Second Dynasty for blessings of fertility and protection from thieves. She is also associated with scent, or pleasant ointments.  When her temple was excavated they found the mummified remains of over 300,000 cats.  Bastet is the mild eastern sun associated with spring.  Her name comes from the root bes, meaning fire. She embodies qualities of both the sun and moon – she draws opposites together.

Ubasti in the natal is a place of fertility, sensuality, sexuality and it is where you are a fierce protector of that which you hold sacred, particularly family and home.

Check out asteroid Sphinx 896. The Sphinx is a keeper of secrets, a guardian with the body of a lion, the wings of a griffon (in Asia), and the face of a human.  The Sphinx posed riddles to travelers on the road to Thebes, if they answered wrong, she devoured them.
Sphinx in your chart is where you must face challenges, where you guard yourself, your life.  Sphinx is also where you guard secrets, mysteries and knowledge which will only be revealed as the time is right.  Those of you familiar with Edgar Cayce know the Hall of Records is reportedly buried under the paw.  More here.

Egyptian lion goddess Sekhmet is asteroid 5381.  Sekhmet is a destroyer goddess, derived from sekhem, or power, and khem which means dark chaos that gives birth to light.
 In the natal chart, Sekhmet represents the transformation of death into wisdom and enlightenment – she is the scorching sun, she is the renewal gained from suffering, the fire that burns the enemy.  She is healing through death and rebirth akin to Plutonic and phoenix energies.  She is power, magic and strength.

I have a plethora of ye olde skool dream interp books, most of which harp on about how cats are bad luck which I don’t buy for a second.
If you like cats, they are good friends, allies and totems – then dreams of them brings good luck.  To my fancy, dreaming of cats indicates Leo stuff such as positivity, self-reliance, creative problem-solving, romance, fun and BIG LUCK.

Quickie read for energies of Sagittarius eclipse.

Ancestor wisdom, long term growth both above and below as it relates to the yang or outgoing masculine energies of the world.

Sirens represent temptation – spot on for the Neptunian waters squaring the solar principle in Gemini.  She waits for an equitable exchange of energy – of action – a balance of the number two inherent in this card of dualities.

Jupiter is Expansion.
Saturn is Restriction.

Jupiter is faith, trust, enthusiastic exploration into understanding the whole world.
Saturn is discipline, limitation, sharp concentration on success via excellent work.

I have a ton of Sagittarius vibe – packed 9th, Jupiter smacked up with benefics in the house of Sun (Leo).  Yet, Capricorn is my ASC (Saturn rules) making my outlook serious, reserved – I am bound by karma (Saturn is karma).  My actions are, as are all people’s, bound by karma – but somehow it is particularly relevant to me.  (Yes, each natal shows a particular theme of Earth School Study)  The ruler of my ASC, Saturn Rx is in Aries (Mars rules) and it also trines Mars in Sagittarius – Mars quintiles Uranus, the planet that rules astrology.

Relevant..?.. yes !  
When I began to grease the wheels of my life with astrological study, my life improved.  I (Sun) was reborn, I regenerated (Pluto).  I not only understood myself better, but I could understand others better as well.  I don’t take arguments as personally because I can read the energy signatures, be more empathetic.  My good karma is writing here at GMA, helping to guide you to the enlightenment you seek to improve your life.

Years ago when I began my strange journey, I was fear (Saturn / restriction, mind 3) based, it was my filter, my lens with which to view my world. 
Where attention goes, energy flows – my outlook and actions (the web I wove) caused far more trouble than I knew how to deal with at that time. Karma kicked my ass to the curb.  I had to pick up my pieces, start over and over and again while in the throes of debilitating illness (which Cap ASC is prone to).

In time (Saturn), I learned (Mercury) to be Jupiter (optimism / fire, heart in Leo 8) based.
I have excavated, picked the bones, made mental lists, compared and contrasted my brains to the moon and back trying to figure out how to change my life for the better.  I noticed everything, sought clues and connections, eventually I learned astrology and the universe began to speak to me.  I began to understand my obstacles, my strengths, and I began to work with the energies, rather than against them.

That is the past, now onto the future…

A few days ago in conversation with my Mother, I casually mentioned I am a Buddhist.

Is normal, her Scorp moon opposes mine – cuss and discuss is quite common.
I identify most strongly with Buddhism, but technically I consider myself a nature-based pagan, wiccan, et al.  I am a rebellious inclusionist (Sun/Ura/Pluto) in the house of Religion – 9, I study everything.
She is Sagittarius ASC – Jupiter in 5 Toro.
Hmph. Go figure.
In this case, my Cap ASC – Saturn Rx in 3 Aries is far less traditional.

The Uranus Pluto square is poking the ribs of traditionalists across the board.

I see it in others, I see it in myself – even my kitties are fussing about accepting a new stray in the yard.  Card reading peeps are hotly arguing about reading styles (traditional vs. freestyle), power tripping astro-fiends are onside – esp. as Uranus rules astrology, my way is better than your way, etc….Changes are upon us and some are stressing about losing ways that used to be.  I got news for you, everything is staying – it is only changing form.  A well-known political astrologer once wrote of her generation, ‘we survived the tumultuous 60’s’, …hmmm…I immediately thought, ‘try being the living, breathing, walking tumultuous 60’s’ – that’s a fun one, I guarantee you.

Where the masses are feeling the square, each according to their chart, those of us born in the late 60’s are getting it on a more personal spiritual (Sun) level. 
I am most certainly feeling it rather close to home.  My natal Moon trines my Virgo Sun/Uranus/Pluto conjunction – men, women; privately (Moon 4), publically (Sun 9); consciously and subconsciously.
All of it ass over teakettle at the mo.  Plus 3 lovely eclipses knocking on some personals to boot – yeeHAW !

Jupiter is frolicking in Gemini (with Venus) being all wild free agent, touching (yes, literally – Mercury & Venus rules touching) base with everyone.  Did your brain go there ?  Hahaa Go ahead and UNthink it now !   (You can thank me later.)

Sagittarius /Jupiter energy in the sign of thinking and communication is a fantastic remedy for working this square / eclipse shizz out.

My Wood is in Virgo trine Moon in Toro, square Sag Mars, quintile Scorp Neptune.  When I was very young the woodlands behind my home were razed. I cried the livelong day – so hard my head about popped off, I was totally freaked, pleading for them to stop.  I feel the same to this day about forests.  Cap rising, multi Virgo, Moon in Toro exalted, I’m very earthy.

John Muir, founder of The Sierra Club actively helped to preserve the Yosemite Valley, Sequoia National Park and other wilderness areas. He has been called the “Father of the National Parks,” and is considered one of the patron saints of twentieth-century American environmental activity.  John had asteroid Wood in Virgo opposite Moon and Venus in Pisces (writing of love of land, serenity found); trine Mercury; square Chiron.  John wrote extensively of forests and nature he experienced firsthand, including The Mountains of California.

In 1916 the National Park Service was founded by US President Woodrow Wilson.
Woodrow had Wood in Scorpio sextile Mercury in Capricorn (sign into law); square Venus/Mars exact conjunct in Aquarius; opposite Uranus in Taurus and trine Neptune in Pisces.

Julia Butterfly Hill spent 738 days living in the thousand-year old Redwood forest tree (she affectionately named ‘Luna’). She wrote of her tree-sitting experience in her book, The Legacy of Luna. Julia has Wood in Pisces (inspired healing) square Saturn in Gemini (writing), sextile Capricorn Venus and Toro Mars (earthy !). Wood square Saturn also indicates the fact that what she thought would be at most a three week stint turned into a two year tree sit.
