I have loved Julian since Valotte, have written about him here at least twice before, but only just today* looked at his natal chart.  Julian recently released Everything Changes, his first album since 1998.  He is active in charity work including his own White Feather Foundation (named for something his father told him), he produced Whaledreamers, a doco about an aboriginal tribe in Australia and its special relationship to whales. (wiki)

Timothy White Photography

While snapping photos during a surprise visit on his brother (pictured above) Sean’s 2007 tour, Julian began to take photography more seriously.  With encouragement from his friend, photographer Timothy White (see link above), Julian had his first, highly successful photography exhibition “Timeless” in NYC in 2010.


Timeless, (above) was taken while on tour with Sean.  It most definitely speaks to my 12th house Sag Mars. . .traveling the open road at night. Obviously it speaks to Julian’s 12th house Aries/Jupiter as well.  I love it !

I had to include Blue Moon, (below), yet another favorite of mine which had me dreaming in cerulean blue for several nights. Julian’s landscapes, particularly the clouds (Neptune rules, angular in 7th, strong) feel like gentle tides which build to a roar of surf – heady heartfelt moments of insight into our Mother Earth…powerfully, quietly taking care of business.

Some wingnut tried to rise my ire a coon’s age ago about Julian’s astro.  I knew the minute I saw this pic he already knew his score.**  Also, for the nutters out there  pitching fits and smacking the term ‘illuminati’ (means enlightened, not the evol ) on everything  symbolic, get a library card, try reading a few books please and thank you.

Julian is Aries Sun, born under a gibbous (nearly full; strong) Libra Moon.  Exalted Aries Sun opposite Libra Moon is ego self vs the public persona (Moon).  The desire for perfection, and the expectation of culmination must be balanced with the realization that compromise and co-operation is the way to highest potential.  Strength through working and playing well with others is key.

Being at odds with how the public (moon) perceives him is a large undertaking in this lifetime – his Libra Moon (others) opposes Aries Sun (self) and  **Jupiter on the high octane 0 degrees Aries point.  He is dealing with 4 strong oppositions involving Sun, Moon and Venus.  Creative expression is inherently a juggling act of awareness and compromised relationships with others.  Collaboration, when sought, is likely very rewarding.

I mentioned Jupiter on the (Mars-ruled) Aries point – it is trine Mars in Leo which is powering his whole chart with creativity from the 5th – Mars also trines exalted Aries Sun.  Independent risk-taking, single-minded goals, extreme sports, being a cheeky monkey (his words) are all power driven by the need to have fun, explore, achieve and move on to the next goal.

Anything on the Zero degrees Aries point is a huge outrush of that planetary energy – Jupiter here exponentially expands vibrations of teaching, philosophy, understanding, healing (12th) through actions.

I have already been on this like hair on ape – if you wanna climb on the comparison  soapbox, I suggest you read this first.
Then find the door.  Alllrighty then.

Julian has Venus (art, creativity) exalted and conjunct Chiron in Pisces in trine to Scorpio Neptune Rx.  Obviously musically talented, creative and sensitive.  (Moon is also in a Venus ruled sign, Libra)
Julian’s Neptune Rx (inspired music, photography) squares Saturn (work and father: also the energy at MC) …honestly the comparisons are old for me – but for him..?  .sheesh.

Earlier this year I watched an interview segment where some idiot news hack inserted Beatles music throughout – infuriating – Julian has been recording his own music for 30 years.  He deals with grace, (mostly) he was rightly pissed off re: the above, as was I.

As any good astrologer will tell you, the aspects do not define you – how you deal with the aspects aka energy – defines you.
Positive or negative/attract or repel, it is entirely up to you.  Saturn/ Capricorn elevated with Mercury rising smack on ASC is a double-edged sword: constant comparisons of a child (Mercury) to his father (Saturn) but it is also profound patience and clever evasion tactics of same.

In addition, Saturn is in Aquarius and let’s face it, that can mean change-ups and separations with the father, who is likely a rebellious sort.  It can also mean genius  innovative work, switch hitting between diverse work interests, a strong humanitarian streak (see Whaledreamers) and a love of the earth and earthkind (see White Feather).


Julian is an Aries with a strong sense of self who can withstand all the goofy public opinions that have shadowed him.  Jupiter in Aries also delivers faith in personal abilities.  North Node in Cancer shows his path of nurturing, and growing into his own regarding feelings surrounding family.  (see comments)

Julian has Pisces Venus conjunct Chiron (harmony, healing with women, relationships)  opposite Uranus Rx / Pluto Rx conjunction in Virgo.  That can signal not only a need for personal freedom, but also the need to give it to others.  It signals perfectionism, or high standards (Uranus and Pluto are transpersonal) placed upon him (Venus is a personal planet) and his chosen art by others.  Venus opposite Pluto Rx will bring life – long metamorphosis involving not only love and creativity, but also money, peace of mind.  Read the wiki link above for the low-down on the money / will / heirloom trail; I am not going there, it irritates me he and his mother were treated this way.

Uranus is quintile (spiritual gifts) Neptune – this brings unusual Uranian style gifts, such as inspired musical talents, far out communication skills (betting on astral travel here), healing and compassion in addition to a well-spring of forgiveness.  Julian has lived his life under scrutiny and handled it very well in my opinion.
Uranus is also trine Mercury in Aries – Julian is not only quicksilver smart – with octaves of communication trine one another – he KNOWS (Merc trine Uran) he is talented in his own right, he has just been waiting for everyone else to catch up.

Supernova Sam transit

May I introduce the incredible the Sam Bush.

Sam started playing mandolin at the age of 11, as a teenager, he took first place  three times in the National Oldtime Fiddler’s Contest. The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) has named him Mandolin Player of the Year four times, and, the AMA (Americana Music Association) has presented Sam with a Lifetime Achievement Award. 

In 1971 when Sam was 19, New Grass Revival formed from the ashes of Bluegrass Alliance.  With a nod to tradition, New Grass took a wild turn into in a fresh patch – rowdy and raising the bar – weaving genres into improv reggae, soul (ck John Cowan in comments – voice that’ll make you see the god/goddess) jazz, (ck Bela’s banjo brilliance here) and blues into a gumbo of bluegrass boogie.

Sam is packing a 4 planet Aries stellium punch of head ’em up an move ’em out. Sun (spirit self) conjunct Jupiter (philosophy of expansion) – Mercury Rx (communications tamed inwardly, streamlined – then expressed outwardly) conjunct Venus (art and balance).

Jupiter trine Pluto Rx (metamorph) in willful Leo (needs fun, creativity benders) is expressive power with a bent towards c’mon let’s GO.  Fire planets or where fire lands in your chart is where you cheerlead others to excel, to REACH HIGHER.

Aries Mercury Rx (conjunct artistic Venus) trine Pluto Rx in Leo is a full-tilt creative vibe that  blooms communications spectacularly, sporadically…fully nailing the outbound vibe consistently later in life, as spirit time calls it. Cardinals are outgoing – they ARE what is going on, Sam fits this bill and then some with at least 6+ planets (without exact birth deets) in Cardinal signs.

Sam has Mars Rx, which only happens around every two years and two months. Mars is the personal energy that drives the spirit expression forward and outward – while in retrograde (seemingly re-tracing steps from the vantage point of earth) energy is gunning on idle, introverted, perfecting itself before expression outwardly.
This is in addition to Sam’s other 4 retrogrades: Mercury, thought/perception; Saturn,  work/restriction; Neptune, spiritual/healing/music;  Pluto, research/transmutation.
All point to a life of studied practice, honing the craft of transformative communicative arts – a Life of Focused, Channeled Expression.

Attention must be paid to houses Scorpio and Leo re: energy flow or lack thereof. (Mars Rx square Pluto Rx) Same hold true of Mercury Rx in Aries and Uranus in Cancer. These signs/planets are stress points that call for understanding – they are fixed, so also calling for a bit of compromise and much bending of personal willpower.

Focus on compromise may SEEM irrelevant, but it is far from it – a life centered around relationships and peace talks with others while also remaining true to self  brings the most satisfying growth. Particularly artistic/competitive agreements centered around family and / or the public spectrum.
Cancer Uranus (unusual family ties) as focal in an Aries/Libra T- Square is La Familia, the path of balance between self, sharing, creative expression in relationships.

The heart (Sun, exalted in Aries stellium) sees possibilities, perceptions, practicalities (Aries Mercury) and promise (Jupiter) – Sun (rules Leo Pluto), expect intense growth regarding all of these.  Outward bound action may be intensely focused and honed to a razors edge by midlife via Mars Rx.

Energy outgoing (Mars Rx) is a matter of deep Scorpio focus – researching personal power, nurturing growth in unusual ways (trine Uranus), from a perspective of depth, quiet, and revolutionary power born from still waters.  Uranus in Cancer feels the love of safety mixed with freedom to rebel and hang loose at home – yet the urge (T-square) to get out there in public, compete & meet and greet  (Aries opp Libra axis) also calls.

Mars Rx trine Uranus in Cancer loves having friends over for home games – Mars Rx square Pluto Rx in Leo craves the metamorphosis of going for it at away games.

I love to think Jupiter is the ruling planet philosophy of festival.  Mercury rules names – Sam has Mercury Rx trine Moon (loose or tight depends on exacts) in Sagittarius – home away from home – Telluride.  Jupiter rules Sag, is conjunct Sun (fame, spirit) in trine to Pluto Rx (transform via creativity) in Leo, which rules Colorado.

Aka: present and picking at 39 out of 40 bluegrass festivals in the San Juans – Sam has the tested & approved, well-worn and much deserved moniker, King of Telluride.

I was stunned by the news I heard today. 
A friend told me, thankfully, so it wasn’t quite as weird as hearing it from somewhere else, but make no mistake – it weirded me right out, regardless.

This man has a family, he is not public property and it takes big balls to even make such an asinine request.  He is not here for the permission giving, now is he ?

My point, if Michael Jackson opted for cryogenics while he was alive, coherent and full tilt boogie on coming back intact in a bazillion scientifically advanced years, that is his business, he decided, and it is altogether different. (For the record, I don’t know what MJ personal biz re: funeral arrangements, is, was, or claim to in any way shape or form, however; I do know MJ had rights to a great part of the Beatles back catalogue, but you don’t want to get me started on that either, fair warning.)

I have a great deal of respect for Julian and his mother, Cynthia and this post is primarily for them, also for Sean.

Wonder why I am seeing red ?  I did, so I looked at John’s chart again.

My Toro moon is exactly conjunct John’s Saturn/Jupiter conjunction in Toro.
Incidentally, my late father has Uranus Rx exact conjunct my Moon as well.

Transiting North Node of Destiny at 10 degrees Scorpio, Saturn at 6 degrees conjunct natal Mercury (youth, messages, flipsides, and children) in Scorpio at 8.  I have been going on and on about streamlining the past, clearing the dross, (Saturn) healing (in Scorpio) in regards to metamorphosis (Scorpio is life, death and rebirth) into the destined future, (North Node) but this is not what I imagined when I wrote that – not by any means.

North Node of Destiny and Saturn are opposite (juggling energy with another) John’s Saturn/Jupiter conjunction in Taurus while also square Moon in Aquarius (feelings regarding science) and square Chiron (wounded healer) and Pluto (death,  metamorphosis, rebirth) in early Leo, which is ruled by the Sun, or life.

Uranus Rx (eccentricity, radical ideas, and oddly enough – astrologers) is transiting over John’s South Node aka: what was, while in square to a 9 degree Pluto (rebirth) at his midheaven (peak of public achievements) at 7 degrees Capricorn (past).

Transiting Mercury and Sun are conjunct John’s Venus in Virgo which forms a quincunx (change in altitude) to Moon in Aquarius (feelings and scientific awakenings).

Mesmerizing Grace Jones.
I was transfixed as a teen by her stunning individuality and provocative presence. I read, watched everything I could get about her then, and I still have a pic of her from an old Creem mag from ages ago – and obviously Zula was a win for Conan freaks like me.  When I saw this cleverly caustic video ripping corporate culture, I had to look up her deets !

Taurus Sun and North Node; Libra Moon/Neptune – Venus co-rules both signs – so yes incredibly artistic, knock-out gorgeous and with Venus in Moon-ruled Cancer, she is all woman, very feminine.

Yet Grace possesses such an unusually innovative femininity.  Mercury conjunct (its higher communication octave) Uranus (the unique) in Gemini while trine to Libra Moon/Neptune delights !  – delivering an edge of rebellion and a revolutionary approach to conventional, traditional beauty.  Gemini thinks about Libra balance; tinkers and tweaks the thought processes of the public re: image. Ravi had Aries Sun trine Jupiter / Neptune conjunction in creative Leo.  Mercury conjunct Venus (Venus is exalted in Pisces) trine Moon which trines Jupiter/ Neptune.
 Life of fame – Sun trine Neptune conjunct Jupiter in Leo.

Mars in Scorpio, Pluto in Cancer and Uranus in Pisces form a grand water trine – Uranus opposite Saturn in Virgo forms the apex of a kite.  Obviously, Ravi has earned his place in history (Saturn) as a groundbreaking, visionary musical genius. (Uranus in Pisces)  Mars in Scorpio (trine Pluto) is super intense, hot to trot for deep musical transcendent experiences (esp. with North Node in Scorp as well), Uranus in Pisces blazes new trails across musical frontiers.

Ravi, interestingly had no planets in air signs – he let his music do the talking.

J U: You were electrocuted in 1976 in Lakeland, Florida. Was that before or after you wrote “Shock Me?”

A F: Before; that inspired [“Shock Me”]. That’s something like Paul and Gene don’t even talk about because they don’t want me to get any press about it. And that was a big thing—I almost died. It was a pretty traumatic experience. I mean, I had burns on my fingers. I was knocked out. [My then-wife ] Jeannette was there and I think she had a premonition about it. It was very weird.

Were you any different after you were electrocuted?

I don’t think so. A few days after I was nervous, because I remember reading that … some guy got electrocuted and he died two days later. So I’m saying, am I going to die two days later? Because that was a bad shock.

Was it painful?

Yeah. I mean, I knew it for an instant and then I blacked out. I woke up behind the amplifiers. I said, “I can’t play.” Then the fans started chanting my name and I finished the show. But I had no feeling in my hands. I don’t know how I even did it. I guess it was all *adrenalin. (source)
