I don’t usually watch television, but I did watch Craig a few nights ago and was reminded of the poignant Late Late Show show several years ago where he divulged his battle with alcoholism.  He was brutally honest and his story was deeply moving…

I don’t remember if I had quit drinking myself at that point or not.  I don’t drink anymore – Venus conj Jupiter (love; expansion, respectively) square Neptune (liquor).  I liked to drink, then I realized if I quit drinking and smoking, I wouldn’t have to work 7 days a week.
Done. Deal. Sober !

Craig is a Taurus Sun, Gemini Rising, Moon in Libra.  Moon brings fluctuation to the house of balance.  Pisces (Neptune rules) Jupiter in trine to Scorpio Neptune can definitely mean an excess of fun times in the water signs.

Craig has Saturn in Aquarius at MC in 10 in square to Neptune.  That means a need to hit the brakes (Saturn), but reluctance to do it.  Mercury, Craig’s chart ruler is focal point of a T-Square with Pisces Jupiter (conjunct Chiron) and Pluto in Virgo (Jupiter and Pluto oppose each other – signaling a big need for transformation.

I wanted to see the aspects for the day he quit drinking.  (2/18/92)

Saturn – ruled Capricorn restraint won over – dig this – on the day Craig quit drinking:

Also Mercury, Craig’s chart ruler had just passed into Pisces at 1 degree.  His transiting Sun had just passed opposing natal Uranus from the sign of Aquarius.  (Craig’s natal Uranus squares his natal Sun)

Aquarius is ruled by Uranus – sudden breaks or separations.
It is the radical wildcard – which in conjunction with a ton of Capricorn restraint, helped Craig begin a life of sobriety.

Tr. Uranus (lightning, unpredictable) at 8 Aries is trine the Leo stellium.  Trine is thought of as an easy energy, but Uranus is wild and unpredictable.  I recently had tr. Uranus trine to Mars and it was not pleasant.  Uranus brings the unexpected every time.  In my case – the Uranus / Mars situation did sort itself favorably.

Lightning has started fires in red-flag drought conditions, (tr. Uranus trine Uranus, Mars, Sun in Leo) many people are being evacuated and Colorado is suffering huge losses of both forests and homes.  The grand cross you can see at the top of yesterday’s post is an aspect of extreme tension both personally and globally.

Venus stationing while conjunct Jupiter (prayers) in sextile to Colorado’s Leo stellium and the country is praying for rain.  Cancer Sun is in the house of Moon (rain) coming to trine Chiron the healer / philosopher.  Mercury just entered Leo and is applying to Colorado’s stellium starting with Mercury at 6 degrees.  Mercury conjunct Mercury means communication is favored and it is also applying in trine to North Node of Destiny in Sagittarius, which Jupiter (prayer) rules.

What’s UP in the sky now.
See the big red X ?

My ex husband and I have that (similar- different signs / houses) in our composite.   After I learned astro, I realized it explained much about our relationship. 
Only a few days ago I was reminded of how things can turn prickly with us rather quickly.

Synastry is how you interact as a couple.  Lay one chart over the other, conjunctions are most powerful.  For example, my ex husband and I have Toro Moons conjunct; his Aries Jupiter is conjunct my Aries Saturn. We felt the same about many things (moons), and his Jupiter greased the wheels of my olde cuss Saturn Rx.  Bad news, our stelliums are squaring each other, which proved to be too much to work out.

Composite charts represent the relationship as an entity.  It is calculated by finding midpoints between the couples planets and points.  It can tell you how you bridge the gap and join forces, or conversely, where you struggle, strain and separate.

Squares – they are dynamic, stressful inner tension  that struggles for change.
You.  Your issue.

Oppositions – they are two polar opposite energies trying to find compromise. 
Us.  Our issue.

See the difference ?  Trines are fab – they are where we can coast with the energies.
Think the Major Arcana Cards :  they are  ! BOOM ! energies you can ride like a wave.

Sextiles are the opportunities, harmony exists – yet you have to fetch them, make the waves yourself.
Think Minor Arcana cards : they are the cards which represent the struggle to succeed, they are the cards that we have to work for in order to get the energies.

Conjunctions are where your energies are operating as a team of horses, or rocket engines  on either side of the boat ~>  you are on the same course, hyperdrive is locked and loaded.  You get each other in that area, no explanations needed.

Squares in synastry are harder to express, they are by nature internal.  
The energies can be quiet, brooding, seething – unless they are expressed and communicated and worked through.  *

Squares are like leaning forward to cuss and discuss issues with someone you have to crane your neck to look at.  It is uncomfortable – it is easier to ignore because it is not right in your face …. yet.   A failure to communicate will only bring the issue up again later. 

* This is where a well aspected Mercury combo in synastry will help a LOT.

Oppositions in synastry are more likely where the fighting will be flung right up on the table.
This is where strategy and diplomacy steps in – it signifies a juggling of energies to find compromise.

Oppositions are directly across the table (wheel) and right in your face – not so easily ignored.   Oppositions are more like a game of ping – pong.  They lay it down and you pick it up – or not. Click here for more thoughts on oppositions and squares.

Oppositions can actually be good in synastry because it is being aware of the other person and their concerns – it is where you are holding hands and making deals across the wheel.  The energies can find common ground because they are on the same wavelength.  For example Gemini ‘lower mind’ opposes Sagittarius ‘higher mind’ – they are opposite and must compromise, but they do understand each other.

Squares are friction, tension, an obstacle that makes us move.  They are different elements and mindsets – misunderstandings are likely. They strain, pull and irritate – we have to drag it up onto the table and hash it out – but squares though difficult, are also where we grow and Grow and GROW.  

Once solved, squares will become MORE POWERFUL THAN A TRINE.

Some background….my former husband came over yesterday so we could have a ceremony and release the ashes of pets.  Four boxes of dead pets { 2 labs (bro/sis), 2 tortoiseshell kitties } were in my basement – seriously is this not totally apt for the current astro ?   Why keep dead pets ?  I know it sounds weird, but first he wanted me to wait, then I moved, then I worked 7/7 for 3 years, organizing is finally on the agenda.  It was time.

This multi-Virgo (Virgo rules pets) was a bit of an emotional wreck, so I called a gal who fancies cats like me, I knew she would get it – she is always so nice to my friends.  It turns out she was in a sacred earth place – one of my favorite places on earth – I forgot the time, it is a sore spot of longing I try to distance myself from, I purposely do not dwell on many things.

Next thing you know (my natal Sag Mars quintiles Uranus, which tr. Mars was conjunct) out of my mouth popped something that surprised me.
Totally unplanned – out of Uranian  left field of course  – yet somehow perfectly timed.
.Fated.

So I awoke this am aiming to embark on a massive divination session, fueled with plenty of cold-brewed java.

The knot pictured is a symbol called the ‘haty’, it produces the flow of the Nile, which conveys vital energies – symbolized by the lungs, breath, heart and the blood to the North and South.  ‘this is the center of respiration, the ligature of ‘spirit’…with the living and nourishing fluid of the blood.’

Mars trines Jupiter and Venus Rx – and South Node in thinking, breathing Gemini. We are breathing in our Sagittarian North Node quest ::: releasing the Gemini South Node wreckage.

Moon in Leo trine Uranus in Aries.  Sun in Cancer.
aka: Get creative with the mood swings, bob and weave. 

Uranus in gung ho to go Aries is focal point of a T-Square with touchie – feelie Cancer Sun and rigid Capricorn Pluto.  Mercury advances to late Cancer and is awash with angsty mental gymnastics as we hash out Venus and Saturn retro.

Be cranky or be creative ? ! ?
 Libra serves up prime grade A choice once again.  Sun trines Saturn Rx while it opposes Pluto in Cap – no the work is not perfect, just show up and do it anyway, let the chips fall where they may.  Mars in Virgo trines Jupiter in Gemini – keep the dialogue moving and open < ~ > the road is hot !

I have been giving all my head space to Uranus Pluto since they conjunct Sun in my natal, then the universe steps in …pssst… Neptune is your biggie, ya know, and Venus is squashed between the other 2 in progs.  Venus and Neptune don’t vibe well in my natal either, and the screws are turning. 

Neptune and Venus Retro are squaring up now, for all of us.  Luckily they do so in mutables, so we can adapt and change easier.  Venus is nearing Jupes by retrograde as well, and that is beneficial if not more than a little scattered in Gemini. 

Heads up for your messages from the past…just remember Venus stations direct at 7 degrees on the 27th – don’t expect real clarity  until it is out of shadow at 24 degrees of Gemini.

I love Love LOVE Ray’s work.  Own a bunch of it, just watched Jason and the Argonauts again last week.  I have been wanting to look up his astro deets, his stop – motion work is simply incredible.
